Genuinely, I have no idea what the hell I’m doing.
The original “Vandelay Industries” began before the 2024 presidential election. It was a silly attempt at getting thoughts out of my head, mixed with what, I felt was, halfway decent political commentary. After the election, I deleted everything in a fit of rage, because I got it wrong. I had convinced myself that Kamala Harris was going to defeat Donald Trump, and maybe we could start to move on from the last decade of insanity in American politics. It was a total misread of the situation. At the end of the day, the previous administration was deeply unpopular. So unpopular, that even a depraved lunatic who tried to steal the previous election, was deemed preferable to someone who was, in truth, an extension of the previous administration. It was that simple, and I missed it.
Although writing about politics is fun for me, it’s not fulfilling, and it’s not really therapeutic, either. So I’ve decided to break out of the box, take the plunge, and start writing about whatever comes to mind. I have no idea where this is going, and I don’t have a long term plan, or any sort of concrete strategy. I must give credit to the amazing “Cartoons Hate Her,” who has quickly become one of my favorite writers. In the post linked below, CHH writes about her journey from self-described “failed novelist” and “failed tech worker” to one of the most popular writers on Substack, reaching the top spot in the humor newsletter category.
That post made me think about my own situation, and my own life. And in my opinion, the best sort of writing is that which makes you think. If you read something and find yourself thinking back to what you just read, then the author has done their job. So, after I read CHH’s post about her own writing journey, I knew I had to do something. This is just the beginning for me.
